Dowry is really a bad thing?
No but Indians made it bad. Dowry system was started by upper class families in ancient India. This was a gift which bride family to groom family. Groom family never asked it but bride family give on her own will and according to her status.
Till this time dowry system was not the problem.
BUT THINGS GOT WORSE WITH TIME.
after few centuries the dowry was later given to help with marriage expenses and became a form of insurance in the case that her in-laws mistreated her.
THIS WAS THE BEGINNING OF NEW PROBLEM.
This become problem when groom family started asking for dowry on their own which was not the case with ancient India AND become a SOCIETAL CANCER. When groom started killing girls in the name of dowry it started killing holiness of marriage. After this marriage become a business not the union of two sprints.
Who is really responsible for this crime ?
Actually whole society is responsible for it.
Lack of responsibility of bride family.
1. India girls are treated as burden on their family so they want to remove tis problem as early as possible.
2. In villages many people are uneducated and let their boys to go school.
3. Bride family itself want to show her status by giving dowry (Not a problem but It triggers the problem).
Role of Indian culture
1. Ancient structure of the Indian society was also responsible to trigger this problem. Girls are supposed to manage home and boys to earn money, therefore girls become dependent on boys for money and boys indirectly become the source of income. If boys are the source of income for girls then bargaining power o...f boys increase. Groom family started to learn this fact and started asking for a big dowry.
2. Society should check this thing when it was started becoming problem but it didn't did the same.
Role of Groom Family.
1. Apart form factor mentioned above GROOM FAMILY IS MOST CULPRIT IN THIS SYSTEM because they misuse their power and use the bad points of society for their own benefits.
2. They capitalize the bad conditions of women status in society.
HUMAN BEHAVIOR-
Humans by the nature are greedy and opportunistic. They do what benefit them most and don't follow rules when come an opportunity comes due to which no law can prevent dowry. Strict laws changed the situation now bargaining power of girls increased and many of them misused dowry laws to blackmail the groom family.
(I per...sonally know few men who are victims). Girls now can file wrong FIR and Unbailable warrant issued against groom family without investigation.
WHAT TO DO NOW????
Only proper education can solve this problems. Many men are doing marriage with girls which are eligible without taking dowry because of education.
Not only formal education should be provided but Societal education is must. People should understand the functions of society and respect that. The people should understand that marriage is not a job,not well of wealth but finding life partner who should love you, respect you and can walk with you in bad or worst time of you life.

Dowry murder is a brutal practice involving a woman being killed by her husband or in-laws because her family is unable to meet their demands for her dowry — a payment made to a woman’s in-laws upon her engagement or marriage as a gift to her new family. It is not uncommon for dowries to exceed a family’s annual income.
While cultures throughout the world have dowries or analogous payments, dowry murder occurs predominantly in South Asia. According to official crime statistics in India, 6,822 women were killed in 2002 as a result of such violence. Small community studies have also indicated that dowry demands have played an important role in women being burned to death and in deaths of women labelled as suicides. In Bangladesh, there have been many incidents of acid attacks due to dowry disputes, leading often to blindness, disfigurement, and death. In 2002, 315 women and girls in Bangladesh were victims of acid attacks.
