Govt wants broad national consensus on Lokpal Bill
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is committed to the enactment of a strong and effective anti-corruption Lokpal Bill.
The Prime Minister said the government would like a broad national consensus to emerge on the issue.
"The government is in favour of a strong and effective Lokpal Bill. There is a lot of scope of give and take. There is a dynamics in the legislative process and it takes time for a bill to be passed. We must all work together to push forward the case of a strong and effective Lokpal," the Prime Minister said.
"We must remove all the obstacles that come by our way. I do not want to say anything to controvert anyone saying anything on the bill," he added.
The PM's comment comes after the central government cleared its stand over the implementation of the Lokpal Bill and urged social activist Anna Hazare to come forward to discuss contents of his 'Jan Lokpal Bill' to resolve the contentious issue.
The government had first imprisoned Hazare in New Delhi's Tihar Jail on August 16, then ordered his release, and finally, when he refused to leave jail, granted him permission to stage his fast for 15 days at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.
Law minister Salman Khurshid had earlier suggested that Team Anna should discuss their version of the Lokpal Bill with the government panel and both together should thereafter make the changes in it.
"The private members bill is a system under which any member could bring his suggestion in front of the Parliament. If it would get votes, then that suggestion would become law," Khurshid had said.
"But it happens very rarely because when a discussion takes place over the private member's bill, then the ministers give assurance that they would include the suggestions in their law to address their fear," he had added. ---------------------------------------------------------------

Problem and strength of democracy is that it works on majority. If Parliament will have 51% people supporting them, then they may take right decisions and eliminate people with bad intentions, these people will bring right people and number of corrupted people wills decreases and cycle continues till 100% people are right. But problem with Indian is that democracy earlier it was filled with 51% wrong people, they took wrong decisions for their own benefits and eliminate persons with good intentions (with majority) these people will bring wrong people and number of corrupted people increased and cycle continues till 100% people become corrupted.
Therefore, this architecture has got rusted now, by cleaning it Anna wants to ensure that population of right people increase so that their power of voting increases and eventually wrong people completely get eliminated. - Tarun Gupta(View Profile)
Every one is thinking of their own good...! Those who think of nation do not think of those people who think of their own benefit...! And those who think of their own benefit don’t want to think of the benefit of the nation! As they will be at maximum loss if the country gets benefits. - Jitu Sharma(View Profile)
We don’t need politics, we should rule our own life, till the time they rule India will remain like this. - Nagesh Hyderabad
It seems that the government wants to say “come lets play thief game ,as there is not police". Don’t know what will be the condition of this country. Every one is thinking of their own profit, which have the time to bother about the nation. Politicians who are eating up the nation, they do not face any problems and , and a common man who earns money by so much hard work, even then is not happy. - Anjali Mathur
