Arrest warrant against Azharuddin

New Delhi: Congress MP and former India cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin is in trouble for his repeated failure to appear before a court in connection with a cheque bounce case, and could be arrested.

A Delhi court had last week issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the former cricketer for allegedly having given a cheque that was dishonoured.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vikrant Vaid, while rejecting the submission made by Azharuddin's lawyer that the former cricketer was busy in the election campaigning in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, issued the warrant.

Reports suggest that Azharuddin could be arrested at any time.

During the campaigning, Azhar was also accused of violating the model code of conduct.

According to reports, Azharuddin had taken Rs 1.5 crore from a Delhi-based businessman Sanjay Solanki as advance for a house that he (Azhar) wanted to sell. This property in Mumbai, worth approximately Rs 4.5 crore, was jointly owned by him and his wife Sangeeta Bijlani.

However, after the deal to sell the house to Solanki was finalised, the former cricketer and his wife decided to part ways. The marital discord led to Azharuddin refusing to sell the Mumbai property and agreed to pay the advance back to Solanki.

In 2008, he then issued a cheque of Rs 1.5 crore to Solanki but it was dishonoured by the bank. A year later, Solanki was given a fresh cheque by Azhar, which too bounced.

Azhar apologised to Solanki and in 2010, issued yet another cheque to him. This cheque too was returned by the bank, leading to Solanki filing a lawsuit against the former cricketer.

Sachin's New House in Bandra

On the first day of Navratri, Sachin Tendulkar has moved into his new home in Bandra — a five-storeyed bungalow at 19-A, Perry Cross Street.



It has reportedly cost the world's richest cricketer a whopping Rs 39 crore (about $7.9 million at today's prices).


IANS reports:


A battery of media-persons clicked away furiously as Sachin, clad in a simple striped T-shirt and trousers, took his first formal step into the bungalow with a glow of happiness on his face.


"I am really thrilled and happy today, especially for my mother and my family members," gushed Sachin on the occasion.


His family members, mother, wife and children also followed suit and then everybody started admiring the cricket maestro’s ‘dream home’ in every nook and corner.


Sachin spent his early childhood in Sahitya Sahawas Colony, Bandra east, and later honed his batting skills in the famous Shivaji Park grounds when he lived in Dadar.


After scouting around all over Mumbai, he had zeroed in on and purchased the Bandra west property to construct his ‘dream home’ a few years ago at a whopping Rs.39 crore. He got it rebuilt from scratch and finally moved in there Wednesday.


According to eyewitnesses at the ‘griha-pravesh,’ the bungalow includes two levels of basement parking with a capacity of more than four dozen vehicles.


One of the floors will be dedicated only to storing and displaying the hundreds of medals, cups, honours and citations that the batsman has received during his two-decades-plus glorious cricket career.

Local cricket fans had put up a special banner welcoming the distinguished new guest to the quiet neighbourhood and many people waited for a glimpse of their favourite cricket star.


A couple of years ago, Sachin had sought easing of certain norms to enable him construct a private gymnasium in his bungalow, but it was rejected by the authorities.

History of Test cricket from 1877 to 1883-

Test matches in the period 1877 to 1883 were organised somewhat differently from international cricket matches today. The teams were rarely representative, and the boat trip between Australia and England, which usually lasted about 48 days, was one that many cricketers (especially amateurs) were unable or unwilling to undertake. As such, the home teams enjoyed a great advantage.

Thirteen Test Matches were played during the period, all between Australian and English sides. Most were not styled as representative "England v. Australia" contests, however: this description was only applied later by cricket statisticians. The same is true of their designation as "Test matches", which did not enter into the vernacular until 1885. Eleven of the thirteen matches played to 1883 were in Australia, where the colonials made the most of their home advantage, winning seven while England won four, and two matches were drawn.

By 1883, the tradition of England-Australia tours was well established, that year having concluded the first Ashes series. When England lost at home for the first time in 1882, The Sporting Times lamented the death of cricket in the mother country and declared that "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia". England captain Ivo Bligh promised that on the tour to Australia in 1882–83 he would regain "the ashes" and the term began to be established. During that tour a small terracotta urn was presented to Bligh by a group of Melbourne women. The urn is commonly, but erroneously, believed to be the trophy of the Ashes series, but it has never been formally adopted as such and Bligh always considered it to be a personal gift.

A number of the problems that continue to bedevil cricket today had already surfaced by 1883: there were umpiring disputes, betting controversies, match-fixing, and even a riot.

After making a mark in local clubs, Dhoni first joined Ranchi Railways but the move to Central Coalfields Limited, where he was asked to open and attack the bowling, was the turning point. The inaugural 2008 tournament started on 18 April 2008 in Bangalore and lasted for 46 days, with 59 matches scheduled, out of which 58 took place and 1 was washed out due to rain

The IPL is predicted to bring the BCCI income of approximately US billion, over a period of five to ten years. All of these revenues are directed to a central pool, 40% of which will go to IPL itself, 54% to franchisees and 6% as prize money. The money will be distributed in these proportions until 2017, after which the share of IPL will be 50%, franchisees 45% and prize money 5%.

Television rights-

On 15 January 2008 it was announced that a consortium consisting of India’s Sony Entertainment Television network and Singapore-based World Sport Group secured the global broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League.The record deal has a duration of ten years at a cost of US .026 billion. As part of the deal, the consortium will pay the BCCI US 8 million for the television broadcast rights and US 8 million for the promotion of the tournament. Broadcast Live on Setanta.

20% of these proceeds would go to IPL, 8% as prize money and 72% would be distributed to the franchisees. The money would be distributed in these proportions until 2012, after which the IPL would go public and list its shares.

In India, the IPL has become one of the most popular events of the year. Around the world, reception has varied. In Pakistan the reception was described by Pakistani cricinfo editor Osman Samiuddin as ‘massive’, suggesting that it attracted even non-regular cricket followers and that the popularity of the Kolkata Knight Riders was great.[14] GEO Super telecasted the matches and also included a popular show called Inside IPL. A similar positive reaction was seen in Sri Lanka, with interest in the Mumbai Indians being large due to the presence of cricket hero Sanath Jayasuriya. Bangladesh has also positively reacted despite only one Bangladeshi player being involved. The Knight Riders were the most popular team. These subcontinental countries were also helped in that the time-slot of the matches fitted in with prime time in these nations.

South Africa has seen moderate viewership of the IPL, and by many accounts viewers have found it enjoyable. However, many were unable to relate to any of the teams, although a large number simply supported Mumbai Indians because of the presence of Shaun Pollock. The timing worked in South Africa but the IPL did not overcome the power of Premier League football or rugby. In England, although the country’s governing body did not allow its players to take part, the IPL was very popular with those who had access to the cable television channel that aired the games.

In the West Indies, the IPL became so popular that it, according to Vaneisa Baksh, threatened to overtake test cricket completely in ‘certain sections of West Indian fans’. While free-to-air coverage has not been complete and it has not ignited passions, it has remained a popular watch.

The IPL was less popular in Australia and New Zealand, mainly due to the time zone differences. Nevertheless, the IPL consistently won its free-to-air timeslot of 8:30 P.M. and 12:30 A.M. Australian Time, and 10:30 P.M. and 2:30 A.M. New Zealand Time for subscription TV.

There are five ways that a franchise can acquire a player. In the annual auction, buying domestic players, signing uncapped players through trading and buying replacements. In the trading window the player can only be traded with his consent. The franchise will have to pay the difference between the old contract price and the new contract price. If the new contract is worth more than the older one then the difference will be shared between the player and the franchise selling the player.[17]

Some of the Team composition rules are:

* Minimum squad strength of 16 players plus one physio and a coach.
* No more than 8 foreign players in the squad and at most 4 in the playing XI.For the 2009 edition franchises are allowed 10 foreign players in the squad. The number allowed in the playing XI remains unchanged at 4.
* A minimum of 8 local players must be included in each team.
* A minimum of 2 players from the BCCI under-22 pool in each team.

The players accorded “icon” status are: Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag . The total spending cap for a franchisee in the first player auction was US m. Under-22 players are to be remunerated with a minimum annual salary of US ,000 while for others it is US ,000. Icon players are to be paid 15% more than the highest paid player in their respective teams.

After the success of the first season, it has been reported that four new franchises will join the IPL in 2010-11, increasing the total number of teams to 12. The new confirmed franchises will be based in Ahmedabad and Kanpur, with Anil Ambani’s name associated with.

Arjun Tendulkar will play World Cup 2015 with father !

It happens on a very rare occasions that a fate of a child is decided even before he has born. As a matter of fact, it is a boon as well as a sin for the child to follow in the foot steps of his famous celebrity parents.
The child in question, here is Arjun Tendulkar the prodigy son of maestro batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Like every other family, he is also expected to follow in the foot steps of his father and carry the legacy forward. It is a trend being followed since many decades. It is not restricted to just the field of sports as a matter of fact.
Arjun Tendulkar, at the mere age of 12 is experiencing tremendous pressure on his small shoulders whenever he lifts up the bat, no matter if it just to swat to fly.
As a matter of fact, it has been wittnessed at numerous times in public how much the kid dote on his father sachin. Will it be another Sachin Tendulkar in the making and if it is then it would be an ominous indication for the Indian cricket fans across the glob.
Arjun participated in his 1st nation wide cricket tournament representing MIG club at the under-13 cadence trophy in pune.
The junior Tendulkar followed with a straight bat shot that showed a glimpse of his legandary father's style. Arjun has been training under the expert guidance of Chandu Bhatkar and Jagdish Chavan for the past five months at MIG club in kalanagar.
These are the signs to playing World Cup 2015 with father. It would be great when there will be two tendulkars in Team India in next world cup.
